Title: University of Oregon Policy Statements
Purpose: To describe the authority and origins of University of Oregon Policy Statements.
Policy:
These University of Oregon Policy Statements replace the former University of Oregon Administrative Memos and its predecessor, the University of Oregon Administrative Manual, and all previous University policies and directives. The former University of Oregon Administrative Memos 5/1/77 may be retained for reference to historical background and description of University matters. In all cases these policy statements are governed by Oregon Revised
Statutes (ORS) and Oregon Administrative Rules of the Oregon State Board of Higher Education, Chapter 580 and Oregon Administrative Rules, University of Oregon, Chapter 571. To reduce errors of interpretation, State Statutes take precedence over State System Rules, State System Rules take precedence over University of Oregon Rules in cases of conflict, and University of Oregon Rules take precedence over University Policy Statements. University of Oregon Policy Statements guide the activities of University employees.
These University of Oregon Policy Statements are subject to revision. They may not cover all administrative matters at the University. Other sources of policy information include the Student Handbook, Faculty Handbook, faculty legislation, Business Office procedures, manuals and bulletins, Personnel Services Office bulletins, the Erb Memorial Union Red Tape Notebook and other documents. In emergency situations, the President or appropriate Vice-President may have reason to temporarily suspend or abridge a given Policy Statement in the interests of equity, public safety, or extraordinary circumstances not anticipated when the policy was promulgated.
